A DISPLAY of wholehearted commitment in atrocious conditions went unrewarded as Westcliff agonisingly failed to break their duck against Bury St Edmunds.
Playing with the gusting wind in the first half, three Greg Bannister penalties saw the hosts clear, but they were cruelly denied even the comfort of a bonus point at the death.
Their 9-0 lead never looked likely to be enough in view of the elements, especially when Toby Hill crossed for Bury with the last move of the first half, with Charlie Reed adding the extras.
