REDRUTH got their season off to a perfect start with a bonus point win against .

The home side’s pack laid the foundations, as did their superior fitness and tenacious tackling.

It was almost a dream start for the Reds when it appeared prop Tommy Phillips had crashed over, but he had knocked-on.

The Lions enjoyed their best period of the game for the next 15 minutes, but couldn’t penetrate the Red wall.

Following a flowing move involving forwards and backs, skipper Sam Stevens nipped over from a ruck under the Lions’ posts, with fly-half Fraser Honey converting. Honey then added a penalty from the 22, before good work from wing Kyle Bradley saw Stevens bag his second try.

Redruth full-back Will Trewin proved a constant thorn in the Leicester side on his league debut, starring with his strong running and tackling.

-half Jack Oulton scored Redruth’s third try before half-time with a dive at the corner.

Redruth maintained their dominance in the second half, sealing the bonus point with Oulton’s second try following a fine break by centre Joel Matavesi.

The game became a little scrappy as the replacements came on during the quarter. Oulton completed his afternoon with a yellow card for a deliberate knock-on.

Leicester spurned a scoring chance with the line begging, but made up for it moments later when scrum-half James Stubbs finally eluded the Redruth cover to score a consolation try.
