Redruth …………17
Bournemouth 12
REDRUTH were made to work hard for the win against a Bournemouth side who belied their lowly position.
The Reds began well but couldn’t turn promising positions into clear-cut opportunities.
Having weathered the early storm, the visitors came more into the game with half-backs Grant Hancox and Mike Pope pulling the strings.
Hancox opened the scoring with a penalty as Redruth were caught offside.
That was matched by Fraser Honey when the visitors transgressed just inside their own half, the fly-half thumping over an almighty kick.
The excellent Todd Prisk ripped a ball in a maul inside his own half to set up a blistering attack by the Reds that saw Lewis Vinnicombe make good ground before Dean Bonds darted over, Honey adding the extras.
Just before half-time Hancox kicked a second penalty for Bournemouth to keep them in touch.
Hancox missed with an penalty chance early in the second half as Redruth continued to struggle to get control.
Jack Simmons and Brad Janes looked lively in the centre for the home side but support was lacking at times.
Hancox kicked a third penalty before Redruth bagged a second try when Jake Clemson followed up his charge down to dot down just before the ball went dead. Hancox kicked a fourth penalty near the end to get a losing bonus point.
