Tonbridge J ….13

……………7

TJS HAD to win ugly as they saw off a committed Redruth side who made life difficult as they looked to bounce back from their first defeat of the season at the hands of last week.

Wet and windy conditions dictated the nature of the game and the early exchanges were characterised by Redruth fly-half Fraser Honey using the wind to send the ball high and long into TJs territory where his opposite number Will Robinson proved equal to the task with some excellent takes in the back field.

TJs opened the scoring after several phases with a very well-worked score started by Robinson and finished by Hugo Watson who crossed for his 12th try of the season.

The lead was short lived as lady luck smiled on the visitors when a Redruth clearance kick touched a TJs hand in flight and was caught 40 yards downfield. Despite outstanding work from TJs full-back Toby , Reds crossed with Ben Fox the scorer and Honey adding the extras.

TJs hit back shortly before half-time through a catch and drive, Ryan Jackson emerging with the ball.

The second half proved a much tighter affair.

Robinson slotted a penalty to extend TJs lead which proved to be the only points of the second period and the home side will be pleased to have got the win over difficult opponents.
