FOURfirst-half penalties from Barnes fly-half Josh Hammett were enough to see the visitors home against a very poor Redruth side, who were unable to complete a turgid comeback.

Despite a bright start, Redruth seemed to lose their way, compounding errors with poor choices.

Barnes grew in confidence as the half grew on and when penalty chances came their way Hammett was on target to steadily build their advantage.

Three penalties in the space of 15 minutes from Hammett, the second a monster effort from inside his own half, gave Barnes the lead before play was held up following a bad injury to Redruth fly-half Richie Kevern.

Play didn’t last very long before another long stoppage for Barnes flanker Daniel Das, happily he was able to resume.

Hammett kicked his fourth penalty just before half-time to put the visitors in a strong position.

Despite an improved performance in the second half, Redruth made heavy weather of their comeback attempt.

They got on the scoreboard thanks to an interception try with centre Connor Gilbert running in from 60m.

Brad Howe got a second try for the Reds but neither score was converted, and Barnes managed to run the clock down to get their first win of the season.
