Clifton …………..17
Canterbury ….39
CANTERBURY showed strong defence in this bonus-point win, allowing Clifton few chances and taking their own at the other end.
Immediately from the kick-off a missed Clifton tackle presented visiting scrum-half Daniel Smart with the opportunity to race under the posts, with Ollie Best converting.
After several phases Brad Barnes kicked for home full-back Tom Francis to cross out wide but Best kicked a penalty to grow the lead.
Just before the interval a wild Clifton pass sent Harvey Young on a run to the posts with Best again adding the extras, with Young instrumental in most of the visitors’ creative play.
A further loose Clifton offload found opponent Charlie Grime, who took his opportunity well to score on 43 minutes. Clifton hit back with a strong drive, powering Mark Roberts over with Brad Barnes converting.
Canterbury soon replied when a catch and drive saw hooker Tristan King rumble over.
Best converted and added a penalty before Clifton’s Mitch Spencer came off the bench with a trademark kick-andchase try.
Late on Ricky Mackintosh took advantage of a Clifton lapse to score out wide to see his team leave the West Country with five points.
