HENLEY were made to work hard but eventually ran out comfortable winners as they picked up a bonus-point win at Barnes.

Third before the start of play, the Hawks trailed at half-time but were able to pull away in the second period on their way to victory.

It had all started so well for them, with two tries in the first 15 minutes. The first came from flanker Scott White, followed a few minutes later by winger George Wood crossing.

Roddy Giles converted both to make it 14-0, with Barnes shell-shocked.

They responded in the perfect manner, however, scoring 18 unanswered points to lead at the break.

First, it was winger Robbie Martey who went under the posts after 20 minutes, with Tom O’Toole converting. Then, Joshua Hammett slotted a penalty to cut the deficit to four points.

David Butler added another for Barnes and, when Hammett converted a second penalty with White sent to the bin, Barnes looked in control.

Instead, they lost Martey to a yellow card right at the start of the second half, and Henley took immediate advantage. Ross Parkins forced his way over to put Henley back into the lead.

Then, with 15 minutes to go, Tom Emery got the bonus-point score for the Hawks, who were able to hold on for the win.
