A SUPERB and controlled second-half performance saw the Rams to another bonus point win to cement their top spot in the league.

Up against a battling Redruth side, the Rams were able to pull away thanks to two second-half tries in the space of seven minutes.

It was a win and performance that pleased Rams’ head coach Seb Reynolds.

He said: “Our goal this week was to get the win but whether we would depend- ed on how we approached the game, we stuck to the game plan and I am over the moon to get a win at Redruth, which for me is the toughest place to come and get a win in this league.

“The game didn’t start too well for us losing Ollie Taylor from the kick-off, but we showed great character we used the pack to get those two early tries which got us on the front foot.

“We work very hard on our set-piece so it was pleasing to see it work so well against a side that’s been renowned for that style of in the past.”

Despite having lost Taylor early on, the Rams soon settled down as they made the most of a catch and drive with replacement Craig Nightingale popping over in the corner, with Alex Seers adding the conversion.

A carbon copy of the first try saw Ben Henderson driven over as the Rams rutted their way through the Redruth pack for an unconverted try and an extended lead.

Redruth needed a score, it came with their own powerful drive offa lineout with Richard Brown getting the score bettered by Aaron Simmonds.

Tom Notman put the home side in a good position but the Reds could not take advantage, instead an error in midfield by Redruth gifted the Rams a third try scored by Louis Wolf.

Having missed with the last two conversion attempts, Seers made amends with a routine penalty.

With half-time fast approaching Redruth needed a score and it came following several phases of play with Sam Stevens being driven over under the sticks, Simmonds obliged with the extras.

Whilst the Rams survived a yellow card early in the second half, Redruth did not, conceding two tries through Jack Steadman and Joe Duffelen with Seers adding a further conversion to wrap up the win.

Redruth head coach Pale Nonu was naturally disappointed with the result but acknowledged that the better side won on the day.

He said: “A disappointing performance but fair play to the Rams they did a job on us and showed why they are a top of the table side. We gave away far too many penalties and when you do that you will struggle to get anything.

“I thought we did reasonably well in the first half, we defended well and tackled hard but we couldn’t make the most of the chances we made.”
