JACK Oulton starred as Redruth battled to victory away at Barnes.

Despite being a mandown for most of the second half, the visitors will return to Cornwall happy with the win.

Barnes took an early lead with Rupert Crossland going over following a strong driving maul from the home side. Joshua Hammett was on hand to convert. But it did not take long for the Redruth response.

The ball was worked wide to Oulton following a lineout and the scrumhalf burst through the Barnes defence to score, with Aaron Simmonds converting.

Barnes started the second half quickly and made their pressure pay when the ball was passed out wide for Mathew Cornish to go over in the corner, butthey could not make the conversion.

As Redruth searched for a way back into the contest, they were reduced to 14 men after Mark Grubb saw red for foul play.

Barnes could not take advantage and soon Redruth took the lead through a converted try to make it 14-12.

Oulton’s brilliant kick out wide was met by Thomas Notman in acres of space to score.

Barnes attempted to unlock the Redruth defence but could not find the answer and the Cornish side held out.
