A LATE flurry saw Birmingham and Solihull down Guernsey in a lively and tensely-fought encounter in the Channel Islands.

Guernsey struck first in the battle between two teams already at the wrong end of the table.

Layton Batiste crossed the whitewash for a converted score to make it 7-0 after eight minutes, Alex Gow making good with the conversion.

However, with the halftime whistle looming, the Bees got themselves back into the game through Matt Dight’s score to make it 7-5.

And one try for the visitors became two before the break when Ashley Scriven crashed over, Jack Jolly converting to give the Bees the upper hand and turn the game on its head just before the interval.

Despite the double sucker punch before the break, the home side drew level early in the second period through Dominic Rice’s score.

Jolly’s three pointer nudged Birmingham and Solihull ahead once more, before a penalty for the hosts went sailing wide. But a see-saw encounter went the home side’s way again when Doug Horrocks dotted down, Henry Greenhalgh adding the extras to make it 19-15.

However, the visitors rallied again with Jolly booting two more penalties to put them in front again And Corey Venus added a converted score at the death to put the seal on a topsy-turvy victory.
