Old Reds ……20 LIW Geese …14

REDS and the Irish served up an entertaining, quality game despite the heavy conditions at Lane.

Reds played up the slope first and started well.

They were on the board with six minutes played, Robbie Smith touching down after some excellent recycling from the pack, with prop Jake Caulfield involved twice.

Both sides looked to handle at every opportunity and Irish took the game to Redcliffians only to find an organised defence holding them off.

Front-row Charlie Connor evened things up, on the end of a move in which the Geese recycled the ball numerous times. Peter Hodkinson converted to edge them in front.

Redcliffians showed patience and skill for the next try. Lock Danny Hodge was on hand to cross after some neat inter-play, Ash Groves converted and they led 12-7 at the break.

Still an open game, it was the Irish, through George Dean, with Hodkinson adding the extras, who retook the lead.

Reds pressed and, following a series of penalties and attacking set-piece,s the ball went wide. Centre Christian Gervais timed his run well to cross and regain the lead for Reds.

Replacement Kieran Hill extended the advantage with a well-struck penalty with ten to go. Both sides went in search of another score, but at the whistle Reds took the honourss.
