Ton’ Juddian 20

REECE Conlon’s late try gave Tonbridge Juddian the points on a day that saw Henley pay a fitting memorial to player Simon Priestley who sadly collapsed and died during a game for the club just last weekend.

The opening exchanges were fast with the Hawks trying to play at pace against a well organised Tonbridge defence. George Jackson opened the scoring for the Hawks with a penalty but they then put themselves under pressure by trying to run the kick off out of their 22. They lost possession in the process which enabled Fin Coxon-Smith to break clear and score in the corner. Nathan Holmes converted.

Tonbridge were very disciplined with the ball and a second try soon followed when after working their way into Hawks territory, Rory McHugh broke clearand scampered 20 metres to score and give the visitors a 12-3 half time lead. Henley enjoyed their best spell after the break and saw prop George Primett score.

A second Henley try from Matt Tibbatts put the home side in front.

The visitors though stole another home lineout and worked themselves into a position for Holmes to level the scores with a penalty. At 15-15, the draw looked a likely and fair result but the well-organised side had other ideas and scored the winner three minutes from the end when Conlon crashed over.
