Redruth relief as Bonds scores clincher

Broadstreet.11 ……….21

REDRUTHcontinued their recent resurgence as they scored two late tries to help them overcome Broadstreet.

It certainly started promisingly as Shaun Buzza touched down after 15 minutes, with Richard Kevern converting to put them into a commanding lead.

But two first-half penalties from Clifford Hodgson helped Broadstreet claw their way back into the contest. They went in just a point behind at the interval.

Redruth clearly had a point to prove and, 12 minutes from time, the pressure told as Jack Simmons went over to give the Reds some breathing space. Broadstreet responded three minutes later with a try of their own as Andrew Murray crashed over to set up a nervy eight minutes for the Cornish visitors.

But Dean Bonds settled any anxiety as he went over with two minutes to go and Kevern added the conversion to seal a gritty triumph.

This is Redruth’s second victory in a row after previously losing three on the spin and they have climbed into the top half of the table. But these are worrying times for Broadstreet as they lost their fifth match in the last six outings to keep them second bottom of the table.

A 30-24 triumph over bottom side Wimbledon is the only victory since October and keeps them firmly rooted in 15th place.
