Barnstaple …24
Bury St Edm’ .39
SEVEN-TRY Bury St Edmunds secured a comprehensive bonus-point victory away at Barnstaple, giving them their fourth win of the season.
Sam Bixby and Tui Uru got the first tries of the afternoon, before a Kyle Spear double put the home side ahead.
But the visitors added tries through Chris Lord, Scott Brown, Collin Smith, Sean Stapleton and Guillaume Duplenne, meaning Nat Bayet’s late consolation try wasn’t enough for the hosts. Barnstaple took an early lead with blindside flanker Bixby driven over with just 13 minutes on the clock.
Three minutes later Uru doubled the advantage after a sweeping move through the hands of Bixby and Lord.
After a penalty from Jake Murphy, Spear’s first try of the afternoon levelled the scores on 29 minutes, and he made it 15-10 with his second in minute 35.
Lord struck back for the visitors on minute 38 and Brown put the away side ahead again with his try on the stroke of halftime.
A catch and drive on 47 minutes resulted in Smith’s try, and Stapleton went over on 54 minutes for the sixth try.
Bayet got a 70th minute consolation, but Duplenne got the visitors’ seventh right at the death to secure the points.
