AN EXCELLENT secondhalf spell for Redingensians was enough to see them past a spirited Worthing side.

Mathew McLean slotted an early penalty to nudge the Sussex side ahead, but flanker Tom Vooght dotted down on nine minutes, Thomas Humberstone converting, as Reds hit back.

No.8 Robbie Stapley also crossed 12 minutes from half-time as the visitors stretched their lead.

Worthing, though, hit back instantly through McLean, who crossed before converting his own try to close it to 12-10.

However, William Morrison scored a converted try minutes before the break, while McLean, who kicked impressively, added another three for Worthing to keep them in touch.

Two more McLean penalties after the interval cut the gap to 16-19, but three tries in 13 minutes from replacement Craig Nightingale, Stapley and a penalty score allowed the Reds to open up a 21-point advantage.

Worthing, though, refused to roll over and ended the match with a flourish.

Replacement Sam Hampson crossed the whitewash two minutes from time, McLean adding the extras from the tee, before winning a penalty try of their own to get to within ten points of Redingensians.
