KARL Gibson scored a late try for Wild Geese against Henley Hawks at Hazelwood to keep his side’s survival campaign alive.

Irish scored three second-half tries to seal the win, avoiding another last-minute disappointment against the Hawks.

Henley took an early lead when No.8 Dave Hyde crossed the line with just three minutes of the game gone.

But Irish only needed four minutes to reply as Tyler Bush scored from Dan Grant Adamson’s break, converted by Ben Kitching.

Irish took the lead on 19 minutes, full-back George Owen powering past four defenders to score in the corner. But Henley responded immediately as Harry Burn crossed the line on 21 minutes and Alan Awcock caught a quick penalty kick to run in four minutes later.

Only for Owen, sinbinned on the half-hour, to score on 40 minutes and put Irish just two points behind at half-time.

But Henley scored again on 45 minutes, Tom Hall driving through the posts, before Burn scored his second three minutes later.

Irish responded on 51 minutes when Tom Richards latched onto a long kick, and Kitching scored again on the hour.

The home side took the lead three minutes later as hooker Gibson scored from the maul, with Kitching kicking a penalty to seal it.
