IT WAS a proverbial game of two halves that thoroughly entertained the crowd, as Worthing Raiders just missed out against Redruth.

The home side made the perfect start with an early score as Brett Rule crashed over under the posts before Worthing’s Kiba Richards was forced from the field.

Joel Matavesi converted as usual kicker Rule received attention but the full-back resumed kicking duties shortly after, adding the extras to Shaun Buzza’s fine try.

Buzza soon had a second try as the Redruth pack put in a storming 20- metre drive – Rule again adding the extras.

Worthing pulled an unconverted try back through winger Nick Padenburg before Redruth got their bonus point thanks to a shortrange effort from Nielson Webber, allowing Rule a simple conversion for a 28-5 score at the break.

Under pressure Worthing turned the ball over early in the second half to go the length of the field for Harry Forrest to score, Matt McLean kicked the extras and then grabbed their third.

Dean Bonds edged Redruth further ahead with a fifth try before late scores by Sam Boyland and Forrest, plus a McLean conversion, gave the Raiders a couple of vital league points in the quest for survival.
