Anniversary celebrations set for Rugby School

School and the children’s charity Wooden Spoon will jointly celebrate two significant milestones on Saturday, June 24th.

The event will honor the 200th anniversary of rugby football and mark the 40th birthday of Wooden Spoon.

Taking place at the birthplace of the game, the day will be dedicated to celebrating the history and impact of rugby.

The day will feature a re-enactment of the first time William Webb Ellis took the ball and ran with it, with a ‘fine disregard for the rules’ on The Close, the same pitch on which Webb Ellis played.

Hundreds of spectators are expected, with tickets still available online and on the day at the gate.  All funds raised will be split equally between Rugby School’s 1823 Bursary Fund and Wooden Spoon.
