Leicester Tigers lock Ollie Chessum will miss the rest of this domestic season and England’s summer tour to Japan and New Zealand after shoulder surgery.
The versatile forward will return as the Premiership gets underway for 2024/25 towards the end of September, but will be absent for Tigers’ push to reach the top seven this year and secure Champions Cup rugby at Welford Road for that campaign.
He will also be a significant loss to his country, having started all five of their Six Nations games earlier this year and featuring in all seven games England played in their run to third-place in last year’s Rugby World Cup.
The 23-year-old was able to play a full 80 minutes Leicester’s last competitive game, a 21-19 defeat to Bristol Bears at Welford Road, but the club decided surgery was necessary for the “ongoing injury”.
