Deflated Saints flanker Lewis Ludlam was left emotionally exhausted at the end of a pulsating but ultimately losing contest where the Franklin’s Gardens men came up short again.
After the 38-15 defeat, the England man admitted: “We gave them too many easy penalties. We fought hard but we had a few blips against a team which was really on fire.
“It hurts to miss out on another slice of history. It’s never easy to lose semi-finals. We have time off now and make sure we get this out of our systems. We have to come back better next season.”
