Phil Dowson bemoaned his side's costly mistakes as Saints came out decidedly second best against Irish in Brentford.
Director of Rugby Dowson admitted: “We gave away too many penalties and were chasing shadows in the second half. We failed to complete enough tackles which was frustrating as we’d worked on our defence considerably.
"There is still a mathematical opportunity for us to reach the play offs and we have to go hard in our remaining games to give ourselves the best chance.”
Captain Lewis Ludlam said: “We knew just how huge this game was but we failed to give our best performance.”
