ROWLAND Phillips kicked off his tenure as new Merthyr boss with a hard-fought victory over RGC at the Wern.
Former Welsh international scrum-half Tavis Knoyle’s contribution off the bench in the second half proved to be the spark for a second half fightback by the Ironmen.
Tries by Dafydd Thomas, Adam Hoskins and Rhys Williams secured Merthyr’s home win to kick off the new Premiership campaign.
