TOM O’Flaherty admitted even he was surprised by the wonder try which helped Chiefs smash sad Bath with six of the best.
The wing scored one of the best tries seen at Sandy Park in the first half, connecting with Joe Simmonds’ high cross-field kick with the perfect volley. He then raced half the field to win the race to touch down.
“It’s one I will remember for a very long time that’s for sure,” O’Flaherty said. “I saw the ball coming over to me from Joe and it was perfect for me to strike first time. It was instinctive and I didn’t have much time to think about it. It worked really well and I just had to get to it first.
“My game is about scoring tries but the important thing is the win and performance.
“We have started this season as if it is an extension to the last one. There was such a short turnaround that it’s like carrying on from last time even though we won that trophy.”
Bath director of rugby Stuart Hooper wants his team to quickly pick themselves up and regroup having lost to Newcastle and now Chiefs.
He insisted: “I don’t like losing any game but to go down to a score like that will hurt the guys. It’s important to learn the lessons from these defeats and come back stronger next time.”
