JIMMY Gopperth tweeted: “Such a proud moment to lead the lads on my 100th game for Wasps. What a win! The boys put a hell of a shift in.”
Gopperth was switched from centre to what is now something of a rare appearance at fly-half. And Wasps head coach Lee Blackett paid tribute to his conribution in patched-up Wasps’ shock victory.
“Jimmy’s been incredible for us for five years,” Blackett said. “It doesn’t matter where you play him, he always does a job and he led us really well.”
Blackett, who has suffered only one defeat since taking the top job following the departure of Dai Young, added: “T he big thing we were lacking earlier in the year was confidence.”
T he win cements their top four challenge but Blackett said: “There’s still a load of work to do to get better.”
Saracens director of rugby Mark McCall, who also has plenty to work on, said: “We are very disappointed with our perfor mance. “We started OK but Wasps were incredibly enthusiastic and we didn’t seem to have the energy. We did better at the star t of the second half – before the red card.”
