ONCE those behind the unsuccessful bid to land the 2023 World Cup stop feeling sorry for themselves, Irish rugby will have to ask itself a serious question. Is there any point trying again?
Their next chance won’t come round for another eight years by which time Ireland, north and south, will probably have much more pressing matters to address than building new stadia or enlarging some of those already in operation.
Of course it’s a crying shame but every World Cup from now on goes effectively to the country guaranteeing most money. That explains why Scotland broke Celtic ranks ...
