Bench men make big impact at Kingsholm

THIS was an evening of implausible stories. It was implausible that Gloucester should beat table-topping Saracens despite having just 16 per cent of territory in the first half. And the man who secured the win had an implausible story, too.

Academy full-back Tom Hudson, 23, came out of a four-year retirement from the game last year after being bedevilled by a persistent groin injury that flummoxed doctors.
But the full-back’s finish for the decisive try 12 minutes from time had the composure of a man who looked like he’d been in the first team for years.
