SOUTH African franchise the Cheetahs made a victorious start to their Challenge Cup campaign as they edged Top 14 strugglers Pau.
Clement Mondinant opened the scoring for the 12th place French side with a long-range penalty before Ruan Pienaar levelled the scores with a three-pointer of his own.
Mondinant regained Pau’s lead with backto-back penalties before half time.
The Cheetahs responded in the second half as they scored the game’s first try through Daniel Maartens, who finished out wide.
