The Welsh rugby grassroots season is well underway, with the league tables across the country starting to take shape.

At the top of Division 2 West Central stands Heol-y-Cyw, who remain undefeated this year and look to maintain that record to claim all available honours this season.

They have been playing some impressive rugby lately and appear to be one of the more exciting teams to watch in the Welsh game today.

It will be fascinating to see how the rest of the season unfolds for this village team.

Season So Far

There was a certain buzz around the team heading into the year; they made some significant signings in the off-season, raising hopes for promotion.

It is safe to say the team has lived up to the excitement; they are currently at the top of the league, undefeated and leading by a clear six-point margin.

They are the best team in the competition on the attacking front, scoring 304 points, which averages 38 points per game.

This attacking prowess has made them a thrilling team to watch.

Defensively, Heol-y-Cyw rank second, just behind Aberavon Harlequins.

A positive sign for the Bridgend County-based club is that they recently secured two consecutive wins against Aberavon Harlequins, who are seen as one of their main rivals for promotion.

Heol-y-Cyw came out on top in tough contests. Last week, they secured a home win against Porthcawl. With all this momentum, promotion has to be their primary goal.

What Is Making Them Dangerous?

Something is clearly clicking at Heol-y-Cyw; such success doesn’t happen without getting things right. Representing a small village, the team embodies a sense of fight and strong spirit.

The players seem to be gelling exceptionally well, and their recent win against Aberavon Harlequins demonstrated their resilience and ability to close out tight games.

Talent abounds on the field, bolstered by key summer signings.

Paul Short, who has been performing excellently at out-half, brings a wealth of experience from his time with Glamorgan Wanderers and Bridgend Ravens.

Aaron Pinches adds depth to the backline with his wealth of premiership experience. In the pack, Adam O’Driscoll stands out as a dynamic player capable of making hard yards for the team.

Jake Lloyd’s goal-kicking has also been a consistent asset, scoring regularly from the tee. Heol-y-Cyw are looking to maintain these positive performances throughout the season.

The Future

Heol-y-Cyw should feel confident heading into the next few months of the season.

This weekend, they are coming off a win against Brynamman RFC in a tough game that showcased their ability to fight back.

Next up is a top-of-the-table clash with Abercrave RFC, which will go a long way in shaping the season.

If Heol-y-Cyw continue their current form, promotion looks likely, as they appear to be one of the division’s standout teams.

Fans are eagerly awaiting early December, when Heol-y-Cyw will face Pencoed in back-to-back games.

On 7th December, the Christmas season will be in full swing, and in Pencoed, the air will be charged with extra tension for a knockout game in the Cup.

Heol-y-Cyw will look to channel the spirit of past teams, including the squad that electrified fans with their Cup run in 2013, culminating in their victory at the Principality Stadium, where they secured the Swalec Plate.

Heol-y-Cyw is not just a team on a roll but a community on a roll. They are playing some exciting rugby that is easy on the eye.

The club, deeply rooted in the local community, enjoys tremendous support, and there is a genuine buzz around the entertaining grassroots rugby they deliver.

Their success is not just their own but that of the entire village. This shared pride and excitement is what makes grassroots rugby truly unique.
