OUTSTANDING scrummaging provided the platform for Clifton’s decisive victory over Newport (Salop).
The home pack propelled the Shropshire side’s eight backwards at almost every scrum and their forward power was underlined by number eight Brad Talbot, who used his strength to complete a try hat-trick.
Lineouts also functioned well for the Lavender and Blacks and, while Newport deserved to score with some speedy attacks, the strong Clifton defence thwarted them.
