TRING began their preseason fixtures with a hard-earned victory over East Anglian rivals Hundred in a tense affair at Colchester club.

The match was played in three 25-minute periods with the opening stanza pointless as each side produced numerous handling errors due to ring rust.

In the second 25, Rochford scored the opening try through -half Jack Daly as the nine sniped through the Tring defence that pushed up carelessly and left a gaping hole in behind.

However, moments later Tring had a sustained attack and broke down the right through a neat offload by Ben Western and after moving the ball to the left wing Nye Reece finished in the corner.

Just before the end of the second period Tring took the lead as classy full-back Ben Beaumont put a perfect grubber kick through which winger Ollie Ayrs touched down.

Five minutes into the third period, Tring extended their lead through Ayrs’ second try after an emphatic break down the left.

Rochford attacked hard in the closing stages in an attempt to breach Tring’s resilient defence and force a draw but the visitors held strong and secured the win.
