Aberavon ……..43
Llanelli …………17
ABERAVON released a video with Hollywood actor Michael Sheen ahead of their first game of the Welsh Premiership Cup and the Wizards produced a thrilling second-half display to thrash Llanelli.
Joe Roberts gave a young Llanelli side the perfect start at the Talbot Athletic Ground with a second-minute try which Josh Phillips improved.
It took most of the first quarter for the Wizards to level the scores in a tight encounter. No.8 Andrew Waite was the man to go over and Aled Thomas was accurate with the kick.
But Jason Hyatt's men were hit by a firsthalf yellow card for Lloyd Evans and that allowed Llanelli to hit back through scrumhalf Archie Hughes.
Phillips again kicked the conversion before Thomas and he swapped penalties.
There was still time before the break for Aberavon to ensure the teams went to the break level at 17-17. Lock Shay Smallman was the next man to score.
Aberavon took control in the second period. Llanelli prop Ryan Thomas was yellow carded and the Wizards pack got a shove on at the scrum. Referee Gareth Newman awarded a penalty try.
It got even better for Hyatt who brought on former Ospreys, Dragons and Leicester centre Joe Thomas who soon created a try for Chay Smith.
Lewis Davies became the next Llanelli player to be yellow carded and Iwan Temblett and Lee Purnell completed Aberavon's win.
