On-form Marcus Watson gets Wasps contract extension

Wasps have signed elusive winger Marcus Watson to a contract extension.

The former England 7s star becomes the latest player to commit to the Premiership club, after the announcement Tom Cruse and Rob Miller had agreed new deals.

Watson has provided the finishing touch for Wasps this season, scoring 4 tries in the Premiership.

And Wasps director of rugby Dai Young shared his pleasure at having the Team GB Olympian commit his future to home matches at the Ricoh Arena.

“Marcus has tremendous pace and that ability to beat the man, as he’s shown many a time,” Young said of the 27-year-old.

“It’s certainly been a bit frustrating for him with injuries halting his chance to play some more regular rugby, but hopefully he can really push on now and string together a good run of games.”

Watson joined Wasps from Newcastle Falcons for the beginning of the 2017-18 season, his silver medal from the Rio 2016 in tow, and the wing expressed his desire to add to his 24 appearances in Black and Gold.

Watson added: “This is a fantastic club and I’ve certainly settled into life in the surrounding area.

“For me now it’s all about trying to stay injury-free and get plenty of gametime under my belt to show what I can do and help the club rise up the table.”
