Beaten Sutts are hanging on by whisker

DESPITE losing 29-25 at home to Guildford, Sutton and Epsomhang on to top spot but only by total games won. Matt Whittacker bagged two tries, with Andy Matthews and Jamie See one each, Tom Leonard kicking one conversion and a penalty.

Guildford,who sealed a last-gasp try, scored through Tom Jeffery, Rob Mitchell, Harry Phillips, Tom Harty and Alex Jordan, with Ieuan Jones adding two conversions. Wimbledon,who beat Brentwood 38-22, are now level with Sutts on points but remain second, having won one game less. Phil Chesters, Toby White, Tom Milner, Jesse Muir, Aaron Booth and Freddie Hooper, who also kicked four conversions, were the try scorers. James White, James Vogel and James Killington (2) crossed for Brentwood, with Brad Burr successful with just the one conversion. Tring got the better of Westcliff 24-17 at Cow Lane.

George Hayes, Richard Beeny and Gary Andrews were the home try-scorers, all converted by Tom Newton, who also landed a late penalty. Sian Roskams and Gary Bannister dotted down for Westcliff, both converted by Jack Jones, to add to an early penalty. Chingford went down 20-15 at home to Hertford. Josh Porter and Dave Banfield were the Hertford try-scorers, with Porter also contributing a conversion and a penalty.

Dorking lost 35-34 to Sidcup with Alex Harris scoring in the corner late on to win it. Mike Terelak notched two for Dorking, followed by Ryan Jeffrey, Henry Smith and Harry Shepherd with one each.

Bedford Athletic were 54-19 winners over bottom side Shelford. Stephen Woodhead racked up a hat-trick with Josh Cassell and Harry Salford-Smith bagging two apiece. Charlie Darlow, David Simpson and Steve Smith were the other try scorers, with Leo Mortimer slotting two extras. Matt Degerson, Owen Miller and Fred Betteridge went in for Shelford, with James McPherson kicking one conversion.

And CS Stags lost 31-19 at home to Tunbridge Wells. Ryan Martin with two and Will Scott futilely touched down for Stags.
