Steve Diamond has made steps to halt Sale Sharks‘ slump by bringing in Dorian West as forwards coach.
West left Northampton Saints earlier this year after eleven years of service, winning the Premiership in 2014 as part of Jim Mallinder’s coaching staff.
Departing Franklin’s Gardens following the arrival of new director of rugby Chris Boyd, West joins Sale looking to add steel to a pack that has been bullied by their opponents so far this season.
Rooted to the bottom of the Premiership table, Sale will face West’s old club Leicester on Saturday aiming to turn their fortunes around after losing three of their first four matches.
“Dorian and I go back a long way and very rarely does a person with his qualities become available,” Diamond told the club’s official website.
“Dorian is a proven winner as a player and a coach and he’ll make a huge improvement looking after the club’s forwards.”
West is now set to take a primary role in making the Sale pack find their best form, with Pete Anglesea and Dan Richmond already at the club working with the academy and as the first-team scrum coach, respectively.
“I’m very pleased to be here and am looking forward to the new challenge ahead,” said West.
“I have known Diamond for many years and he has given me a great opportunity and I can’t wait to get started.”
After last weekend’s 13-31 defeat to Wasps at the AJ Bell Stadium, Diamond told TRP: “I was disappointed with the performance second half. I thought we were under pressure at the scrum, that was evident.
“But we had one or two opportunities in the game and couldn’t put them away again.”
