Ton-up for Cleve as Pats put to sword

CLEVE took their second victory of the South West Premier in style by running over 16 tries during a 104-12 victory over Old Patesians.

Cleve capitalised on an injury-hit Pats side and took a 40-7 lead into halftime before running riot in the second half to seal a convincing victory.

Both of the top two sides secured bonus-point victories with Bournemouth holding their top spot following a 34-3 win over Brixham.

Sam Hardcastle ran over the game’s opening try after 13 minutes before Josh Tarrant gave them a 17-3 lead at half-time.

Alan Manning increased the Lions’ lead to 19 points after the break before Adam Higgins and Mike Haines crossed the whitewash to complete the victory.

Ivybridge matched that performance but were ran closer with a hard fought 41-31 victory over a spirited Exmouth.

The title challengers shared their five tries around with Will Lamont, Billy Pinkus, Lewis Patterson and Charlie Briant all running over while they were also awarded a penalty try. Pinkus was once again on form with his boot kicking five conversions and two penalties.

Maidenhead remain just three points behind the leaders after clinching a 41- 35 home win over University.

Dave Cole ran over a brace of tries while Ollie Foxley, George Blewitt, Lawrence Leonard and Mark Childerhouse also crossed for the hosts.

Ed Keohane and Will Runciman added two conversions each against the students.

Weston-super-Mare picked up their first win of the season against fellow strugglers Bracknell with a 24-17 scoreline.

Mike Hocking, Cameron Maslen, Matt Watkins and Brad Talbot all crossed the whitewash for a victorious Weston side while they also kicked two conversions. In response Bracknell scored three tries by Rhys Verley, Ken Dowding and Conor Segre of which two were converted.

Drybrooktook a second league win of the season despite a second half fightback which saw Newton Abbot claw their way back to 43-37 from 33-10 down at half-time, while defeated Camborne 53-27.
