Harlequins have announced they have released winger Jonas Mikalcius after suffering an injury which ruled him out for all of last season.
The former star underwent surgery to have a multi-ligament reconstruction of his left knee when sustaining the injury at the 2017 Singha 7s.
It was the cruelest of blows inflicted on the Hartpury youngster’s burgeoning career after his try-scoring antics in the college’s National One year earned him the move to Stoop.
The 24-year-old scored 27 tries for Hartpury that season but his switch to south-west London has seen much of his time limited to the physio room.
A club statement by the Premiership side, read: “ confirmed today (Wednesday) that Jonas Mikalcius has been released by the club.
“The 24-year-old winger joined the London club’s Academy in 2016 and played for the Academy and teams.  He was injured while playing in the Premiership 7s in July 2017 and has been receiving treatment since.”
A spokesman for Harlequins said: “We have supported Jonas with his rehabilitation over the past year and have provided advice and support on the options available to him. We thank him for his service to the club and wish him well with the next stage of his career.”
