Leinster fly-half Joey Carbery is set to complete a move to Munster ahead of next season, according to reports in the Irish media.
The 22-year-old has been the subject of much attention over the past few months following the IRFU and Joe Schmidt‘s advisement for Carbery to play more regularly ahead of next year’s Rugby World Cup.
Unable to usurp team-mate Johnny Sexton for the starting berth at the PRO14 and Champions Cup double-winners, Carbery has been strongly linked with a move to Ulster though it now appears Munster is his preferred choice according to the Irish Independent.
It’s been a case of things getting worse before they get better for Ulster who have been on the lookout for a fly-half ever since revoking Paddy Jackson’s contract in April. But the move was opposed by Leinster coach Stuart Lancaster who advised Carbery to snub a move to the Kingspan.
A move to Thomond Park now beckons with an announcement confiming the arrival of the 10-time capped kicker expected to be made in the coming days. This follows talks between Carbery and Munster director of rugby Johann van Graan last week over a potential move.
Carbery is now set to form a formidable partnership at half-back for the PRO14 semi-finalists, knowing a synergy between him and Conor Murray can only strengthen his chances of making the Ireland squad heading for Japan in 2019.
