Worcester Warriors have finally landed the signature of Edinburgh fly-half Duncan Weir after spending several weeks pursuing the Scotland international.
The 26-year-old will make the move to Sixways Stadium in the summer on a one-year deal and was welcomed by the club’s director of rugby Alan Solomons as an ‘outstanding’ option to have available in next year’s Aviva Premiership campaign.
“We are delighted that Duncan has signed for the Club as he is a top-class player who possesses experience at the highest level in the game,” Solomons told warriors.co.uk
“He will provide us with another outstanding option at fly-half as we continue to build an exciting squad ahead of the 2018/19 season and we look forward to welcoming him to the club.”
Weir has won 27 caps for his country since his debut against France in the Six Nations in 2012 and made two appearances at the 2015 Rugby World Cup in England.
Leaving Edinburgh after two years at Murrayfield, the playmaker commented: “I am extremely excited to be moving to Sixways this summer to be part of a very talented squad.
“Warriors have shown this season that they can beat any team on their day and I am looking forward to working hard to help the Club have a successful 2018/19 campaign.”
Weir had been close to signing for Worcester earlier this year on a short-term loan but was recalled by Edinburgh boss Richard Cockerill due to injuries and international call-ups.
The former Glasgow Warrior will be joined in the West Country by Australian fly-half Jono Lance next season.
