Romain Ntamack and Garry Ringrose broke the same law in separate cases of such striking similarity that their dangerous behaviour flattened the same target, Ben Thomas.
The first of the head blows, delivered by Ntamack in Paris during the Six Nations’ opening match, broke the Welshman’s nose. The second, Ringrose’s in Cardiff last weekend, landed with such ferocity that Thomas might easily have sat out the rest of the match in a fog of concussion.
