The gods played a dirty trick in denying Ken Owens a farewell appearance for his beloved Wales and equally beloved Scarlets but they cannot deny him his place in the Pantheon.
In the section reserved for Lions’ Test hookers, ‘The Sheriff ’ shall forever stand sentry alongside a pair of all-time greats from Gwent: Bryn Meredith and Bobby Windsor.
Nobody brought more passion to his game than Owens. Only he could have played a critical role in averting strike action by Wales two days before last year’s game against England and perform as if his life depended on the outcome.
