IT TOOK both sides at The Battle of the Big Little Horn 50 years to bury the hatchet. Rugby Union and Rugby League, sworn enemies for more than twice as long since the fag end of the 19th century, have still to bury theirs.
How strange that three of North America’s great native tribes found enough common ground with the US Cavalry after Custer’s last stand to call a truce as long ago as 1926. More than a century and a quarter after going their separate ways, Rugby’s cold warriors have still to shake hands never mind reunite under one banner.
