Dave Ewers found himself back in the south of Africa last week when he flew to Pretoria with Exeter for the Heineken Champions Cup clash against the Bulls at Loftus Versfeld.
The 32-year old flanker was born in Zimbabwe. Had he remained there, he would probably have moved to South Africa to further his rugby career but when he was 13 his family decamped to England and he has spent the last 12 years with the Chiefs.
