England A’s fixture against their Australian counterparts at The Stoop at 2pm today is an essential building block for any head coach to assess the Test-ready quality of aspiring players.
Nevertheless, it is extraordinary that having canned England A fixtures early in Bill Sweeney’s tenure, the RFU is somehow trying to take credit for bringing back something it should never have abandoned in the first place!
On the plus side, it is good to see coaches Mark Mapletoft and Andy Titterrell rewarded for taking the England U20s to a world title last season by being given the England A reins.
