Don’t put Dickson in that position

If the Karl Dickson furore in the Harlequins v Northampton clash last weekend at Twickenham tells us anything, it is that if a former pro player becomes a top tier referee it is imperative that he is not put in the position of officiating in a match in which his former teammates are playing.
Irrespective of the detailed RFU defence of Dickson’s decision not to give Danny Care a second yellow card – and therefore a red card – by Paul Hull, the RFU’s head of professional match officials, the outcome was totally unsatisfactory.
