THIS week saw the 20th anniversary celebrations of the 2003 England squad winning the World Cup for the first time. What I remember most through the mist of two decades was a sense of euphoria and optimism undiminished by filing copy into the early hours of the morning in Sydney after the final.
A big part of it was the feeling that England were on the cusp of a golden era, in which another world title – or more – appeared achievable. How wrong can you be! Five World Cup tournaments later there has been no repeat, with South Africa and New Zea...
