The boast that the Premiership is the most competitive league in the world has been trashed.
This was demonstrated on Friday night when Northampton – who were annihilated 62-8 by mid-table Bristol last month – came within an ace of securing a play-off semi-final against Saracens by moving into fourth place in the table after a 66-5 away win over Newcastle.
