The RFU has just introduced one of the biggest changes to the game in its 152-year history, by lowering the tackle height to the waistline and below, despite virtually no consultation with the English rugby union population, whether rank and file rugby players, supporters, or club administrators.
The decision, which was voted through by the RFU Council this week, is not only peremptory and high-handed, but is also at odds with the democratic structure of the RFU as a mutual co-operative owned by its member clubs.
