THE end of Eddie Jones’ seven-year era following his sacking on Tuesday has highlighted why the RFU is fast becoming a byword for dysfunctional administration. Eight months ago, Jones received a pledge from chief executive Bill Sweeney and his performance director Conor O’Shea, that “the RFU fully support Eddie”. This followed a second dire Six Nations campaign in succession, and the endorsement from the chief executive was even more definitive in July after the 2-1 series win over injury-hit Australia.
