Time for RFU to be more proactive

The RFU has a habit of letting the Twickenham grass grow under its feet for too long when it comes to working out England coaching succession plans. That is why Shaun Edwards will not be part of England’s coaching setup after Eddie Jones departs the scene in October 2023.
Edwards’ contact with the RFU was limited to a walk down the Thames with its chief executive, Bill Sweeney, in 2021. However, where there was no follow-up from Sweeney, France’s head coach, Fabien Galthie, stepped up with a four-year extension for Edwards, and put the contract in front of him pronto.
