England are the favourites to win the Women’s World Cup, but they will only be put to the acid test when the delayed tournament reaches the semi-final stage next weekend.
The weakness of the tournament is that the semi-finals were as predictable six months ago as they are now. Namely, that England, hosts New Zealand, and France will be in the last four, because they are professional where most of the other teams are not. However, the draw favours England, who are likely to face Canada, whose players all have day jobs.
